Day – 4 of Self Improvement : Learn the art of "How to Ask"

day-4

Human, is a social animal.

We live in societies and in colonies.

As we are a social animals, we love to be social. We love to talk, we love to chat, we love to share our feeling, we love to speak, and we love to express our feeling.

We love to share, we love to ask. Communication is a vital key component in our daily lives.

In these communication and due to our social nature, we ask sometimes for help, help from others to solve our own issues and problems.

Generally peoples do help of others t but did you ever notice “How you do ask for help”? , No? Notice it again, when next time, you ask someone favour for you.

I run a PowerShell blog and I am PowerShell MVP too. Lots of peoples sent email to me seeking for help.

I don’t mind helping someone.

BUT

They don’t know, “how to ask”.  Below are the few examples.

1.     I want a script, can you write for me?

2.     I want to deliver a project, my manager told me, can you help Me.?

3.     I want a PowerShell script for my exams, can you write for me?

Most of them, even don’t care to say “HI” or “how are you”. I don’t know why peoples do send, soar and dry dull emails. No feeling, and it seems that, they are sending an email to any Customer care, who is available for them and they paid for its services and I ought to reply them.

Now, do you also sent these types of email, when you are seeking for help?  If yes, then there are very low chances that the receiver it going to reply you.

It’s time to learn about “How to Ask”.

Remember the below point before asking for help for someone.

1.     Before sending him an email asking for help, make sure your have tried everything, and you posted on every blog and still didn’t get the answers.

2.     Contact the person as a last resource. Do your remember the “Jinn” of bottles which grants 3 wishes, same applies here, use them wisely, and in our case, ask wisely.

3.     Write a warm email, asking about, how is he, his family, his blog.

4.     If you really like that person, appreciate it, and it’s always good to tell them, what you like most, there blogs, stories, scripts etc.

5.     Tell them, how awesome they are 😉

6.     Be polite

7.     Don’t use, “I want”, “My” , “My Project “ etc. Remember, everyone has to fight their own battles. Use polite words, if “they could”, if they have free time etc.

8.     Always remember, everyone is busy like you, so expect delays in the replies, peoples do replies.

9.     It’s always good to ask, so ask in a way, so that you get reply J
